CALL FOR PHYTOSANITARY TREATMENTS

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting submissions for:

1. Phytosanitary treatments to be adopted as international standards, as annexes to ISPM 28 (Phytosanitary treatments for regulated pests).

2. Phytosanitary treatments used in international trade, to be posted on the Phytosanitary Resources page.

The Technical Panel on Phytosanitary Treatments (TPPT) will review the submissions. As the TPPT meets in English, it is preferable to make the submissions in English.

You may make a submission at any time, but if you wish your submission to be considered by the TPPT in their next meeting in 2017, please send it before the 5 June 2017.

Submissions will be accepted from Contracting Parties or Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs). Submissions should be sent through the respective IPPC Official Contact Point.


1. Instructions for submissions for treatments to be adopted as international standards:

Data in these submissions will be reviewed rigorously, and will result in a clearly stated level of efficacy. These treatments will be reviewed through the IPPC Standard Setting Procedure.

Please completely fill out the Submission Form for Phytosanitary Treatments and submit it along with all supporting documentation to the IPPC Secretariat by e-mail ([email protected]). The name of the submitting country or RPPO and the words “Call for Phytosanitary Treatments” should be placed in the subject line of the email message.

The submission should include all of the information required and outlined in ISPM 28 (Phytosanitary treatments for regulated pests), keeping in mind the Criteria for justification and prioritization of proposed topics. To see which treatments have already been adopted, please visit the International Phytosanitary portal (IPP) to access the adopted phytosanitary treatments as Annexes to ISPM 28.

The submission should identify a contact person for the treatment who may be contacted for clarification as required.

Evaluation of treatment submissions:

The submission forms are collected by the Secretariat, then compiled and forwarded to the TPPT to review the submission and evaluate them against ISPM 28 and the Criteria for justification and prioritization of proposed topics.

For additional information on how treatments are reviewed by the TPPT please look up section 8.8 in the IPPC Procedure Manual for Standard Setting


2. Instructions for submissions for treatments to be posted on the Phytosanitary Resources page

The submissions reviewed under this process, should meet the Criteria for inclusion to the Phytosanitary Resources page established by the Capacity Development Committee (CDC). These treatments may not always have a stated level of efficacy, but are used in international trade.

Please make sure to fill out the Submission form for phytosanitary treatments for publication on the Phytosanitary Resources page with the basic information requested and submit it to the IPPC Secretariat by e-mail ([email protected]). Please also attach the document outlining the phytosanitary treatment and containing the schedule of the treatment (e.g. a manual, or other source of reference) for publication on the Phytosanitary Resources page.

The name of the submitting country or RPPO and the words “Call for Phytosanitary Treatments” should be placed in the subject line of the email message

Evaluation of treatment submissions:

The submission forms are collected by the Secretariat, then compiled and forwarded to the TPPT for review and evaluation against the CDC established Criteria for inclusion to the Phytosanitary Resources page. The TPPT will recommend treatments to be posted on the Phytosanitary Resources page.
