The Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on IPPC Phytosanitary e-Certification's purpose is to discuss and establish a work programme to ultimately get agreement on an International Plant Protection e-Certification standard for inclusion in ISPM 12.
Electronic phytosanitary certification is the authenticated and secure electronic transmission of phytosanitary certification data, including the certifying statement, from the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of the exporting country to the NPPO of the importing country.
This electronic certification process is being developed by some IPPC contracting parties as a possible alternative to traditional IPPC paper phytosanitary certificate. This is being undertaken on a bilateral basis but the challenge is there is no international standard which countries can follow. It is not foreseen that e-Certification will replace paper phytosanitary certificates for many years to come, other than were bilateral agreements exist to do so.
The first e-Certification Workshop will convene in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from Tuesday 07 June to Friday 10 June, 2011. Here is the invitation letter. Meeting documents are being uploaded and updated below, on this page. This meeting will be held in English only.
Update 24 May 2011:
Please note that we have room for 5 more participants and can accept them on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please remember that due to resource restrictions, the Commission for Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) has agreed that there will be a limit of only TWO participants from each contracting party. Please confirm your participation with Ms. Tanja Lahti (firstname.lastname@example.org).
