Summary

SAG has recently established phytosanitary measures after confirming the presence of the strawberry nematode pest (Aphelenchoides fragariae) that affects strawberries, a pest that was not present in Chile, for which the SAG has established a series of measures to prevent its dispersion and production damage.

This strawberry nematode, Aphelenchoides fragariae, was detected in the Maule, Valparaíso and Metropolitana regions, mainly affecting the productions of small producers, as top priority has been given to identify practices that allow managing this pest and reducing the economic impact.

Danger
That, given that the situation of the pest in the production areas of the main hosts in the national territory is unknown, the SAG, in its duty to protect the country's plant health, must continue conducting surveys to determine the degree of dispersion of Aphelenchoides fragariae and know its potential economic effects. Given the above, it is necessary to have phytosanitary measures aimed at containing the advance of the pest from the outbreaks initially detected in the Valparaíso, Metropolitan and Maule regions.
