IPPC Surveillance standard being modernized

The IPPC Expert Working Group (EWG) for the Revision of the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 6: Guidelines for Surveillance (2009-004) met from 28th September to 2nd October 2015 in Auckland, New Zealand.

The meeting, organized by the IPPC Secretariat, was hosted by the Ministry for Primary Industries of New Zealand and the chairperson was Mr Paul Stevens (New Zealand). Nine participants attended the EWG, including four experts selected by the Standards Committee (SC) from Argentina, Australia, Canada and the Netherlands, the steward from Poland and two representatives from the host/organizer.

2015 June - Call for Experts (EWG Sea Containers)

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for appropriately qualified experts for an Expert Working Group (EWG) to develop an international standard on Minimizing pest movement by sea containers (2008-001).

Nominations are due by 10 August 2015.

Nominations will be accepted from governments, National or Regional Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs or RPPOs). Nominations should be submitted through the respective NPPO or RPPO official IPPC Contact Point and self-nominations should be supported by an accompanying letter from a government authority.

EWG on Cut Flowers and Branches (2008-005)

Last week, the IPPC Secretariat facilitated an Expert Working Group (EWG) meeting for Cut Flowers and Branches (2008-005) which took place in Arusha, Tanzania from 16 to 20 June 2014. These experts met to develop a standard on the international movement of cut flowers and branches. The experts contributed with discussion papers and all tasks laid out in the specification 56 were thoroughly discussed. By the conclusion of the meeting, a consensus had been reached on all the issues raised during the discussion and on the draft standard. Experts selected for 2 Expert Working Groups (Used Equipment, Seed)

Experts have been selected to take part in two Expert working groups (EGWs) to develop international standards on International movement of seed (2009-003) and International movement of used vehicles, machinery and equipment (2006-004).

2nd Meeting of Expert Working Group on Phytosanitary Capacity Development, 23'“27 May 2011, Montego Bay, Jamaica

The second Meeting of the Expert Working Group (EWG) on Phytosanitary Capacity Development took place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, 23-27th of May 2011. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) had together with each FAO region delegates participating (unfortunately except Africa). Two observers representing the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture(IICA) participated in the meeting.

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Expert Working Group on Phytosanitary Capacity Development was created to review and refine the Phytosanitary Capacity Development Operational Plan and to assist the Secretariat with developing national phytosanitary capacity.

Expert working group maintains momentum for phytosanitary capacity development

Group phot of the EWG As agreed at the 5th Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures, an expert working group (EWG) was convened 25 – 29 October at FAO Headquarters in Rome to review and refine the phytosanitary capacity development operational plan. Experts from Australia, Côte d'Ivoire, Jamaica, Malaysia, Netherlands, Sudan and the United States of America participated.
