The IPPC Regional Workshop for the Caribbean Region (2015)

The 2015 IPPC Regional Workshop for the Caribbean Region was held on 29 September – 1 October, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The workshop was organized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the IPPC Secretariat, hosted by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, and funded by the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Project from the European Union (EU). Sixteen participants from 12 contracting parties, representatives from IICA and the IPPC Secretariat, and a member of the Standards Committee attended the workshop.

IPPC Regional Workshop for the Near East and North Africa (2015)

The 2015 IPPC Regional Workshop for the Near East and North Africa was held 14-17 September, in Amman, Jordan, and there were 40 participants from 14 contracting parties and West Bank and Gaza Strip. The Workshop was organized by the FAO Regional Office for the Near East (FAO-RNE), the Jordan Plant Protection Organization and the IPPC Secretariat; and it was funded by FAO-NRE as well as from the IPPC Trust Fund.

IPPC Regional Workshop for the Pacific (2015)

The Workshop was organized by the Pacific Plant Protection Organization (PPPO) for 29-31 July 2015, with the participation of representatives from 19 National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) in that region. The Workshop was funded with assistance from the Pacific Horticultural and Market Access project (PHAMA), and financed by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Progress on National Reporting Obligations (NROs) at Central Africa Workshop

On 24-27 June 2013, the IPPC Secretariat participated in the Central African Workshop on National Reporting Obligations in Libreville, Gabon. By working with the FAO Subregional Office for Central Africa (SFC), the IPPC Secretariat intends to assist and facilitate the collection and organization of national data, as well as provide additional guidance material for establishing National Reporting Obligation (NRO) systems and more comprehensive data entry. The workshop discussed the necessary steps and strategies to provide continued technical support to allow countries fulfill NROs.

IPPC Workshops in Central Africa to discuss meeting national reporting obligations and participation in the standard setting process.

Two workshops were held in Libreville, Gabon, from 29 October - 03 November for 10 Central African countries as part of a phytosanitary capacity development project TCP/RAF/3312 funded by FAO. There were 19 participants from the region and the IPPC Secretariat.

The overall IPPC objectives are:

protecting local food security systems from new pest outbreaks; protecting the environment (including forestry), and hence plant resources, from pests of plants; and the safe (phytosanitary) trade of plants and plant products.
