Draft ISPMs available for NPPO and RPPO review for the 2011 November Standards Committee Meeting

The IPPC Secretariat has posted two draft ISPMs for review at the 2011 November Standards Committee (SC) meeting: 2004-022 Draft ISPM Systems approach for pest risk management of fruit flies (Tephritidae) and 2005-002 Draft ISPM Integrated measures for plants for planting in international trade. The documents are available for NPPO and RPPO Contact Points and for all SC members. Once approved by the SC, these two draft ISPMs will be forwarded to the CPM for adoption. Support for NEPPO in becoming a RPPO

The Near East Plant Protection Organisation (NEPPO) was formally recognised as the tenth Regional Plant Protection Organisation (RPPO) under the IPPC on the 23rd of March, on the last day of the Seventh Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary measures (CPM). Since being created in 2009, NEPPO has managed to establish a sound structure, adopted rules and procedures, and established a Secretariat based in Morocco. It has 10 member states and would like to expand the number of contracting parties of the organisation.

NEPPO, THE TENTH REGIONAL PLANT PROTECTION ORANIZATION UNDER THE IPPC

On 23 March 2012, the IPPC formally recognized the Near East Plant Protection Organization (NEPPO) as the tenth Regional Plant Protection Organization (RPPO) under the IPPC. The announcement was made on the last day of the Seventh Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM). A number of RPPOs congratulated NEPPO on this achievement. NEPPO recognized this important occasion for the Near East plant protection community and noted that NEPPO would need the full support of other RPPOs, FAO, the IPPC and WTO during the transitional period after its creation when financial support and additional expertise was needed.
