Mr Jingyuan Xia, the IPPC Secretary, had a meeting with Mr Melvin Spreij, the Secretary of the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) on 15 June 2016, at FAO-HQ in Rome, Italy. Mr Craig Fedchock (the IPPC Coordinator), Ms Sarah Brunel (the IPPC Implementation Officer) and Mr Marko Benovic (the IPPC Finance Officer), also attended the meeting. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss a number of topics related to projects funded by STDF, projects ongoing and potential next steps for moving forward in the relationship between the two organizations.

The leaders of the WTO and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations announced on 2 November their agreement to collaborate on the issue of trade and food safety. WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo and FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva agreed at the FAO headquarters in Rome that the two organizations will look into how sanitary and phytosanitary standards and food safety can facilitate trade and promote development.
The 2015 IPPC Regional Workshop for the Near East and North Africa was held 14-17 September, in Amman, Jordan, and there were 40 participants from 14 contracting parties and West Bank and Gaza Strip. The Workshop was organized by the FAO Regional Office for the Near East (FAO-RNE), the Jordan Plant Protection Organization and the IPPC Secretariat; and it was funded by FAO-NRE as well as from the IPPC Trust Fund.

The Workshop was organized by the Pacific Plant Protection Organization (PPPO) for 29-31 July 2015, with the participation of representatives from 19 National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) in that region. The Workshop was funded with assistance from the Pacific Horticultural and Market Access project (PHAMA), and financed by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
