The IPPC Secretariat would like to call your attention to the Latin American Risk Assessment Symposium (LARAS), "Building-up a regional approach” which will take place from 27 to 29 August 2019, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The symposium will be held in English and Spanish with simultaneous translation. Participation is free of charge, although costs for travel, accommodation and lunches will need to be covered by participants. For more information see:
The aims of the symposium are to:
contribute to developing food safety structures in Latin America in order to sustainably improve risk analysis in the region;
provide a forum for networking between important food safety actors, experts and colleagues;
exchange state-of-the-art science know-how; and
highlight the importance of food safety in an interconnected and interdependent world.
During this highly interactive forum, participants will analyse the strength and weaknesses of the current food safety structures in Latin America. Using their accumulated expertise, participants will put the current food safety system in Latin America to the test and develop a strategic plan for further activities.
The Symposium is jointly organized by the Uruguayan Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) and the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) with the support of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the Portuguese Economic and Food Safety Authority (ASAE) and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN).Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
