Over 40 representatives of the governments of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended a WTO Regional Workshop on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 16 - 19 February 2010. Workshop material was presented by representatives of the WTO, Codex Alimentarius, the IPPC, and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). The IPPC representative gave an overview of the IPPC and presented how the IPPC addresses key provisions of the SPS Agreement such as transparency, dispute settlement, risk assessment, equivalence, regionalization, and technical assistance. The material covered also included information on adherence to the IPPC, how to access information electronically through the IPPC website, guidelines for import regulatory systems (ISPM 20) and the regulation of wood packaging material in international trade (ISPM 15).
