Aseminar organised by the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) on “Plant Health Standards and Food Security” to be held on Friday 13 May 2016 from 12:30 to 13:30 in the FAO’s Sheikh Zayed Center.
The Seminar will be conducted in English and chaired by Mr Jingyuan Xia, Secretary of the IPPC, with welcome remarks by Mr Damien Kelly, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Ireland to Italy.
The following speakers, who are also Members of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) Standards Committee, will address issues related to phytosanitary standards and their relation to food security:
- International phytosanitary standards for food security. Mr Bart Rossel, Pacific region representative, Standards Committee Chairperson, and Director, International Plant Health Program, Australia
- An African perspective on food security and the movement of grain. Ms Ruth Woode, Africa region representative, Director, Agriculture, and Department Head, Agriculture, Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly, Ghana
- China’s approach to food security through the use of phytosanitary standards. Mr Lifeng Wu, Asia region representative and Division Director, National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Centre, China.
