Pest detected in experimental fields at Malashi and five farmer fields at Mufubushi in Mpika district
- Resumen
Wheat blast symptoms were observed for the first time on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown in experimental plots and five farmers’ fields in Mpika District of Muchinga Province during the 2017–18 rainy season. In Zambia, wheat is grown under two agro-climatic systems, rain-fed and irrigated systems. The rain-fed system (usually adopted by small-holder farmers) is characterized by wet, humid and warm conditions while the irrigated system is characterized by cool and dry conditions.
- Peligro
- Will affect efforts to promote rain-fed growing of wheat among small scale farmers in Zambia
The pest has been listed as a quarantine pest and measures have been put in place
