Una Organización regional de protección fitosanitaria (ORPF) es una organización intergubernamental que funciona como órgano de coordinación de las organizaciones nacionales de protección fitosanitaria (ONPF) a nivel regional. No todas las partes contratantes de la CIPF son miembros de las ORPF, ni todos miembros de las ORPF son partes contratantes de la CIPF. Además, algunas de las partes contratantes de la CIPF pertenecen a más de una ORPF.
Actualmente hay 9 ORPF:
El Artículo IX de la IPPC prevé que las ORPF contribuyan a diversas actividades para alcanzar los objetivos de la CIPF. Extiende las responsabilidades de las ORPF a la especificación de la cooperación con la Secretaría de la CIPF y la Comisión de Medidas Fitosanitarias en la elaboración de las normas internacionales. Las ORPF, por lo tanto, desempeñan una importante función en la colaboración para la aplicación de la CIPF.

Cada ORPF tiene sus propias actividades y programa. Todos los años se convoca una consulta técnica de los representantes de la Secretaría de la CIPF y de las ORPF para fomentar la consulta interregional sobre medidas fitosanitarias armonizadas para combatir las plagas e impedir su propagación e introducción, y para promover la elaboración y uso de las NIMF. A la fecha se han celebrado 21 consultas técnicas, cuyos informes están disponibles en el PFI.

The procedure for the recognition of new RPPOs was adopted by the ICPM-04 (2002). Please refer to the document posted below.
Technical Consultations among Regional Plant Protection Organizations (TC-RPPOs) are regularly convened (annual basis) by the Secretary of the Commission. The purpose of the TC-RPPOs is to inter alia, encourage inter-regional cooperation in promoting harmonized phytosanitary measures, and the development and use of relevant international standards for phytosanitary measures. In addition to being a forum for RPPOs to consult as a group, the TC can support regional programmes under the IPPC and contribute to the work programme of the CPM.
