UN General Assembly proclaims 2020 as year to recognize and protect plant health

20 December 2018, Rome – The UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Plant Protection Convention Secretariat, based at FAO, welcome the UN General Assembly’s adoption today of a resolution proclaiming 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH). The year is expected to increase awareness among the public and policy makers of the importance of healthy plants and the necessity to protect them in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Fourth meeting of IYPH Steering Committee held at FAO HQs

From 23 to 25 April 2018 the International Year of Plant Health Steering Committee of the IPPC (“IYPH StC”) held its fourth meeting at FAO headquarters in Rome.

Led by Chairperson Ralf LOPIAN (Finland), and supported by the IPPC Secretariat, twenty participants and six invited stakeholders took part in the meeting.

The 2nd Meeting of IYPH Steering Committee held in Incheon, Republic of Korea

The second meeting of the International Year of Plant Health Steering Committee (IYPH StC) was held in Incheon, Republic of Korea, from 12 to 13 April 2017. The First Steering Committee Meeting on IYPH 2020 Successfully Held in Rome

The first meeting of the Steering Committee (StC) on the International Year of Plant Health in 2020 (IYPH 2020) took place at FAO Headquarters in Rome from 9 to 11 November 2016, resulting in the development of concrete steps forward to ensuring the proclamation of IYPH 2020. Towards IYPH 2020: CPM-11 takes the next steps

In April 2016, the Eleventh Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-11), the governing body of the IPPC took further steps towards the proclamation of an International Year of Plant Health in 2020 (IYPH 2020). Finland officially requests FAO resolution for IYPH 2020

It is now a bit over three months since I accepted the honour and privilege to serve as the next IPPC Secretary. After taking my duty in May 2015, I have initiated the process of Strategic Planning on the IPPC and renewing of its Secretariat based on the recent Enhancement Evaluation to the IPPC Secretariat.
