There were two detections of Tomato ringspot nepovirus (ToRSV) in the 1980s from South Australia from a single plant of Pentas lanceolata and a Cymbidium sp. There is no evidence of spread from either detection and the original plants no longer exist. With no further detections, including surveying and testing programs, this virus is considered to be no longer present in South Australia. Identification of the virus by the Tasmanian Government in samples from New South Wales and Victoria in 1999 and 2001 are considered unreliable as the detections were not verified and the original host plants no longer exist. There are no further records of this virus in New South Wales or Victoria, despite ongoing surveillance. This virus has never been detected in other Australian states or territories. Therefore ToRSV is now considered to be absent from Australia.
