Reception marks the Launch event of the International Year of Plant Health

Rome, 2 December 2019 - The IPPC Secretariat hosted a reception at FAO headquarters to mark the Launch event of International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) 2020.

The reception was attended over 200 participants, including Mr Andrew Doyle, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine of Ireland; Ms Jaana Husu-Kallio, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland; and Ms Tamara Finkelstein, Permanent Secretary of Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The IPPC Secretariat makes a difference at the World Trade Organization Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures advanced course

12 November 2019, Geneva – Every year, the World Trade Organization (WTO) runs a two-week Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) advanced course tailored to government officials from developing countries. The course helps participants better understand and implement the WTO-SPS Agreement, benefit from its provisions, and engage more fully in the work of the SPS Committee.

Plant health exhibits hosted by Ireland and Italy at the International Year of Plant Health launch event

Rome, 2 December 2019 – Two thematic exhibits from Ireland and Italy were hosted at FAO headquarters for the official launch event of the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) on Monday, 2 December. Entirely dedicated to plant health, the exhibitions aimed at raising public awareness of the phytosanitary risks associated with international travel and trade.

Rome, 2 December 2019 - The official launch event of the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) 2020 took place on Monday, 2 December 2019 at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy with the active participation of FAO staff members, governments, plant health experts from the IPPC community, and representatives of various stakeholder groups.

Launch event of International Year of Plant Health 2020

The International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) launch event will take place at FAO headquarters as a special session of the 163rd session of the FAO Council on Monday, 2 December.

The FAO Director-General will open the plant health exhibition at 5:45 pm (CET), followed by the official IYPH 2020 launch event from 6:00 to 7:45 pm. Forging next steps for IPPC ePhyto: Meeting at the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

12 November 2019, Maryland, USA – The IPPC ePhyto Steering Group (ESG) and the Project Technical Committee (PTC) met at the offices of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) from 12 to 15 November 2019 in Maryland, USA.

Mr Christian Dellis was elected as the new ESG chair for 3 years – replacing the outgoing chair Mr Peter Neimanis. During Mr. Neimanis’s time as chair, IPPC ePhyto moved from being a project to a full-time operational component of the IPPC Secretariat. Advancing with international standards on plant health: The November 2019 IPPC Standards Committee (SC) meeting

15 November 2019, Rome – The 34th meeting of the IPPC Standards Committee (SC) took place from 11 to 15 November 2019 at FAO headquarters in Rome. The meeting was chaired by Mr Ezequiel Ferro from Argentina. The IPPC Secretary, Mr Jingyuan Xia, gave the opening remarks.

The SC revised the following draft International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs) that have completed the second round of consultations and are being considered for adoption by the 15th Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-15) in 2020:

18 November 2019, Maryland, USA – The first IPPC ePhyto and Emerging Pests workshop for African countries took place from 18 to 22 November 2019 at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Inspection Services (APHIS) offices in Maryland, USA. The workshop was jointly organized by USDA and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat. 22 November 2019, Rome – The fifth meeting of the IPPC Implementation and capacity development committee (IC) was held between 18 and 22 November 2019 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. Participants discussed strategic issues and work plans; and reviewed several phytosanitary projects in terms of implementation and capacity development. The IC also agreed to work on a roadmap for achieving key results related to the draft IPPC Strategic Framework 2020-2030.

Roundtable discussion on trade facilitation at the US Agricultural Export Development Council

21 November 2019, Baltimore - IPPC Secretariat Senior Advisor Mr Craig Fedchock participated in a roundtable discussion on trade facilitation with members of the US Agricultural Export Development Council held in Baltimore, U.S.A. Participants included representatives of US Wheat Associates, the US Dairy Council, the Northwest Horticultural Council and the California Almond Board.

Mr Fedchock discussed the latest developments regarding the IPPC ePhyto Solution, noting that sixty-nine countries had registered to use the platform - including the European Community most recently. Mr. Fedchock also reported on the USA/IPPC sponsored workshop for Africa on IPPC ePhyto and Emerging Pests.

  • شاركت أمانة الاتفاقية الدولية لوقاية النباتات في حلقة نقاش منسقة لإدارة الحدود (CBM) خلال اجتماع اللجنة الفنية الدائمة لمنظمة الجمارك العالمية (WCO) في بروكسل ، بلجيكا. والواقع أن الحجم المتزايد باستمرار للسلع والأشخاص الذين يعبرون الحدود يثير معضلة كيفية تسهيل التجارة والنقل مع التخفيف من مخاطر الصحة النباتية وغيرها من أنواع التهديدات. تدابير بناء الثقة هي جزء مهم من الإجابة على هذه المعضلة.

تعد الحاويات البحرية وشحناتها من المسارات المحتملة لانتشار الآفات والأمراض النباتية في مناطق جديدة. لذلك من الضروري التأكد من أن الحاويات البحرية ليست ملوثة وأن شحناتها خالية من الآفات.

قام وفد الاتفاقية الدولية لوقاية النباتات برحلة ميدانية إلى كمبوديا في الفترة من 4 إلى 8 نوفمبر 2019 لإنشاء موقع رائد للمشروع العالمي للاتفاقية الدولية لوقاية النباتات بشأن تنمية قدرات الصحة النباتية في كمبوديا. تألف الوفد من السيد جينغيوان شيا ، أمين الاتفاقية الدولية لوقاية النباتات ، والسيد شياو ليانغ وانغ ، مستشار الصحة النباتية التابع للاتفاقية الدولية لوقاية النباتات ، والسيد كيكسيان يي ، مدير معهد البيئة وحماية النباتات بالأكاديمية الصينية للعلوم الزراعية المدارية.
