Geographical Distribution

In November 2016, GPGV was detected at Wentworth, New South Wales and in Angaston, South Australia. Previously the virus was not detected in Australia. Following surveillance activities undertaken during budburst in late 2017, further detections were found in Adelaide Hills, South Australia and Robinvale, Victoria.

ملخص

Eradication of GPGV from Australia is not considered technically feasible and therefore regulation of the virus in infected vines detected in quarantine at the Australian border will no longer occur. GPGV occurs where wine, table and dried grapes are grown in Europe, Asia and North America. GPGV was first described in 2012, when advances in diagnostic technology allowed the virus to be identified.

Danger

GPGV impacts vine health may include delayed budburst, leaf distortion, leaf mottling and stunting. The virus is spread when infected propagation material is distributed, and it may be transmitted by the eriophyoid mite Colomerus vitis (Pagenstecher, 1857). Some infected vines can be asymptomatic. Yield losses have been recorded overseas.
