Vacancy for an IPPC Programme Specialist

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is an international treaty whose mission is to secure common and effective actions to prevent the spread and introduction of pests of plants and plant products that may affect the world plant resources both cultivated and wild.

As a team member of the Plant Production and Protection Division (AGP), providing substantive contributions to support enhanced sustainable crop production intensification, the incumbent will organize, plan and deliver specialist advice in support of the development, implementation and monitoring of international standards. To this objective, the incumbent will:

Provide support to governing body mechanisms in the development of standards and in building consensus for their adoption by overseeing the organization of intergovernmental and technical meetings; Prepare advocacy materials and documents to support standard setting activities; Engage countries, institutions and partners at national, regional and international levels to support the development and implementation of standards activities; Use experience gained in the capacity development programme and the implementation of standards at national/regional levels to support the improved development of the standards; Run monitoring and reporting systems that capture input from countries as a means to address concerns in the development of standards and improve opportunities for cooperation and advancement; Maintain networks of collaboration amongst technical specialists to gather information and promote awareness of the standards; Advise the Division on key issues and opportunities to expand and enhance cooperation with other teams and programme coordination; Inform colleagues on opportunities to improve sustainable production through the development and implementation of standards and the use of international agreements.
