Краткое описание

The virus was probably introduced in vegetative planting material (stolons) of buffalo grass from North America.

No containment actions are possible as the virus has been present for at least one season - similar symptoms were apparently evident in the previous season in 2007 - and is likely to be widely distributed in commercial turf consignments.

Опасность
This is the first record of the virus in Australia. It was detected in a sample of turf in June 2008. The virus is not known to naturally infect any other commercially important plant species and is only known to spread by mechanical means (on mower blades). It was previously known from the USA and Mexico. The natural host range is restricted to a few panicoid grass species and has not been recorded on naturally infected Poaceae crop species. Its major economic host is buffalo grass.
