Eric Bentsil Quaye has over 32 years’ experience as an agriculturist and currently ag. Director of the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) of MoFA. Since 2005 to 2014, Eric worked as a food safety and planting material expert with the World Bank and African Development Bank funded projects within the Ministry of Food and Agriculture working in the field of horticulture. He also coordinated and facilitated the conformance of over 450 farmers to either the GlobalGAP and/or organic standards for USA and European markets. raining in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP’s) for Organic and Conventional Agriculture, Pre-requisite Programmes, Seed Management Programmes and possesses skills in HACCP Plans, Farm and Factory audits, facilitation in Training and Workshops, coaching of farmers and exporters on product consolidation, supply and certification. Eric has also facilitated the development of 8 planting material standards in collaboration with the Ghana Standards Authority which has been used to certify mango nurseries. He has also consulted for UNIDO on developing an SPS Mapping for selected Ghanaian horticultural products for exports. Consulted for COLEACP-PIP as an Expert for Group and Collective training for farm managers/workers in the West Africa Sub region on Standard and Trade Maps, Agricultural Standards, Pest Management, Food Safety. In 2017, Eric acted as the Director of The Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) for a few months with the primary objective of ensuring the lifting of a temporal ban of selected vegetables imposed by the EU. Consults for local and international bodies. In 2015 – 2016, carried out consultancies in Gambia and Togo on training of Farmers, Extensionists and Researchers on Cashew Plantation Development funded by USAID and GiZ respectively. In 2016, carried out consultancy assignment in Beirut for the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce on the EU market access requirements and product consolidation commissioned by The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs “Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI)”. Eric is an official GlobalGAP Version 5 Trainer and has since September 2011 participated in COLEACP-PIP funded training programmes in Ghana and Kenya. These include communication strategies, field training workshops, sensitization in fair trade and standards map training. Additionally, Eric is member of the National Seed Council member (NSC) and the National Variety Release and Registration Committee (NVRRC) and provides the secretary functions. Eric has a Master’s Degree in Food Safety and Quality Management from the Natural Resource Institute, University of Greenwich, United Kingdom, an Intermediary Certificate in Applied HACCP from the Royal Institute of Public Health, United Kingdom, Post Graduate studies in Crop Protection specializing in Seed Pathology from the University of Cape Coast and a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Extension from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
