In March 2006, black willow canker was detected on willow trees in the ACT and NSW. It has been decided that willow black canker is not likely to be a disease of significant economic impact. Relevant industries raised no concern about the decision to take no further action on this disease.

Danger

The fungus willow black canker, an exotic disease to Australia, was detected on willow trees in NSW and the ACT. It is not likely to be a disease of significant economic impact. The black willow fungus is not aggressive on willow and is conisdered to be a minor fruit rot disease. It is likely to be controlled by fungicide spray regimes already in use. An eradication program is not feasible or required.
