About 500 species of plants are affected including coffee, papaya, orange, oil palm, ochro, sweet potato, lettuce, cassava, bananas, pear and avocado. Primary hosts Preference for cassava, breadfruit, cocoa, legumes and cucurbitis
Geographical Distribution
Surveillance for the pest revealed that A. fulica was present at Alyce Glen Gardens Petit Valley, North West Trinidad (Figure 1). Restricted to an area < 1.0 km2.

Resident Entomologist at the Ministry of Agriculture Land & Marine Resources diagnosed Achatina fulica from samples collected at Alyce Glen, Petit Valley, North West Trinidad on 28th October 2008. The species was confirmed to be Achatina fulica Bowdich (1922) on the 15th December, 2008 by Dr. David Robinson, Malacologist, USDA and Dr. Aufola Fields, Malacologist, U.W.I, Cave Hill, Barbados.

Danger
A. fulica is a pest of quarantine importance in the region. This is the first record of Achatina fulica in Trinidad.
