27 March 2019, Rome - The IPPC Finance Committee (FC) met prior to the start of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-14). The FC reviewed budgetary and finance related CPM-14 documents and the progress made in the financial management of the IPPC Secretariat since their last meeting.

The IPPC Secretariat presented the financial report for 2018; the resource mobilization report for 2018; and the work plan and budget for 2020. The FC also discussed financial issues related to the IPPC ePhyto solution; the celebration of the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH) in 2020; and the challenge of fully funding these two important activities.

The FC concluded that the IPPC Secretariat successfully implemented the work plan and budget for 2018. It also recognized the high quality of the financial and resource mobilization reports; and expressed its appreciation to the IPPC Secretariat for its improving its financial stewardship every year.

The FC strongly supported efforts of the IPPC contracting parties to ensure sustainable funding through an increase in the FAO Regular programme allotment to the IPPC Secretariat. It also urged contracting parties to provide more support to the IPPC Work Programme by increasing their contributions to the IPPC Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) and IPPC projects; as well as their in-kind contributions to the IPPC.

The FC meeting, held at FAO Headquarters in Rome, was chaired by Mr. Greg Wolff (Canada - FC Chair), and opened by Mr. Jingyuan Xia, IPPC Secretary. The meeting was attended by Ms Lois Ransom (Australia - FC and CPM Bureau member), Ms Kyu-Ock Yim (Republic of Korea - FC member), Mr Lucien Kouame Konan (Côte d Ivoire - FC and CPM Bureau member), Mr Craig Fedchock (IPPC Adviser) and Mr Marko Benovic (Budget and Planning Officer of the IPPC Secretariat).
