The IPPC joins forces with other Secretariats to address invasive alien species

Yukio Yokoi (IPPC Secretary) & Bernard Vallat (OIE Director General)Mr. Yukio Yokoi, the Secretary of the International Plant Protection Convention, attended a meeting of the Inter-agency Liaison Group on Invasive Alien Species, held 17-18th of June at the headquarters of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in Paris.

This group seeks to fill gaps and promote coherence in the regulatory framework for invasive alien species, reduce duplication at the international level, and promote other actions to address invasive alien species at the national level. The membership of the liaison group includes IPPC as well as the secretariats of the Convention on Biodiversity, the World Organisation for Animal Health, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), Fishery Committee of FAO and the World Trade Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization and the International Maritime Organization. Also, other members may be invited for the future meetings as necessary.

The IPPC will be a key partner in this effort.
