As an outcome of the OEWG on Building National Phytosanitary Capacity, the following papers were produced:
a draft concept paper on national phytosanitary capacity which included a definition of phytosanitary capacity; a draft strategy based on situation analysis and in which six strategic areas were identified as priorities; and a draft operational plan (these papers are also available as annexes to the report of the OEWG on BNPC) as well as a paper on mentoring as it relates to phytosanitary capacity building and aid effectiveness principles for phytosanitary capacity building analogous to those outlined in the Paris Declaration on Aid ...
The IPPC Secretariat is currently advertising a 12 months project post in the area of information exchange capacity building. Please see the link below for further details.

As outlined in the IPPC Standard Setting Procedure, a biennial call for topics for the IPPC standard setting work programme is being made. Topics being solicited include the following:
new topics for ISPMs new components to existing ISPMs, such as supplements, annexes or appendices revision/amendment of adopted ISPMs, supplements, annexes, appendices or glossary terms pests for which a new diagnostic protocol should be developed new topics for phytosanitary treatments (e.g. fruit flies, irradiation, etc.), for which specific information and data will be called for at a later date. Please note that the meeting of the Open-ended Working Group for the Development of an IPPC Capacity Building Strategy has been re-scheduled to take place 8 - 12 December 2008 at FAO Headquarters in Rome.
Anyone interested in attending the meeting should adjust their plans accordingly.

Phytosanitary treatment submissions are being solicited for heat treatments for fruit flies.
The submissions should include all of the information required and outlined in ISPM No. 28 (Phytosanitary treatments for regulated pests), available on the IPP at: https://www.ippc.int/id/13399?language=en.
National Plant Protection Organizations and Regional Plant Protection Organizations can respond to this call and are requested to submit their treatment submissions by the IPPC Official Contact Points to the IPPC Secretariat no later than 15 October 2009.

This is a reminder to please respond to the survey regarding the online system for the submission of comments on draft ISPMs. We would appreciate if you could complete the survey by Friday 12 December. The survey will help the Secretariat to gauge the utility of the online system for comments and to improve the system for the future.
The survey is available in English, French, and Spanish.
Note - those that responded to the survey without adding the country name need to go back and add it in. The Secretariat apologises for this mistake.
The IPPC Secretariat launched a call for nominations of experts for 2009. Nominations will be accepted by governments, NPPOs and RPPOs. For more information on the process of submissions, please go to the link given below.

Submissions are being solicited for additional cold treatments for the control of the fruit flies: Ceratitis capitata and Bactrocera tryoni on Citrus spp.

Four draft specifications for ISPMs were approved by the Standards Committee in November 2009 for member consultation. Specifications outline the content and scope a future International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) and provide the expert drafting group with directions on what to consider while drafting the ISPM.
