Short Description

Australia is a federation composed of different states and territories. Under Australia's biosecurity system, the federal government and state and territory governments all have a role to play and have different biosecurity responsibilities and related biosecurity legislation. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (as the federal government) works with its stakeholders, including the state and territory governments, to maintain and improve plant health in Australia. Australia has well established government–industry arrangements to support the national plant health system. These arrangements include a number of national committees and emergency response arrangements established to assist in effective consultation and decision-making relating to plant protection.
