During routine surveillance in 2005, an infestation of Phytophthora lateralis in Chamaecyparis plants was found at a nursery where ornamental plants are grown. Measures for eradication and prevention of spread have been implemented. The source of the infestation was not identified.

Phytophthora lateralis is not listed as a quarantine organism in the EU. In an initial assessment carried out by the Netherlands Plant Protection Service this fungus was considered to be a possible phytosanitary risk. EPPO has carried out a full PRA for this fungus.
