7 June 2019, Windsor - The training course for potential facilitators for using the Beyond Compliance tools under the project MTF/INT/336/STF Rolling out Systems Approach globally - sharing tools for enhanced application of Systems Approach and market negotiation on plant pest risk was recently completed.

The project is funded by the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) and implemented by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat. Imperial College London (ICL) s Centre for Environmental Policy is the originator of the tools and concepts in partnership with STDF PG328 Beyond Compliance: Integrated Systems Approach for Pest Risk management.

The training course allowed participants to better understand the Systems Approach; raised their confidence in explaining and evaluating these systems; and allowed them to practice using the primary tools of the Production Chain and Decision Support of Systems Approach (DSSA). This interactive training course led to the development of materials to support the facilitation of future trade cases.

The training - which took place from 2 to 7 June 2019 - was organized and delivered in collaboration with the ICL Centre for Environmental Policy. Twelve trainees from all FAO regions were selected according to pre-determined criteria outlined in the global call issued by the IPPC.

The selected successful trainees will be given an opportunity to implement trade cases received in response to the global call for trade cases to receive project support. Trainees who successfully implement trade cases will be validated as Beyond Compliance tools facilitators.

The Beyond Compliance Global project aims to support the deeper understanding of ISPM 14 The use of integrated measures in a systems approach; and provide the phytosanitary community with updated tools for global use.
