The second meeting of the Capacity Development Committee was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between the 27th-31st of May 2013. Please find the full report here. The CDC represents a major step forward on national, regional and global cooperation to prevent the spread of pests. This work on capacity development provides a bridge towards implementation of the science-based guidelines that every country in the world can use as a basis to trade efficiently while safeguarding plant resources from the threat of pests. The CDC is comprised of technical representatives from all regions, and they oversee the development of tools to strengthen global capacity for implementation of the IPPC and its standards. During the five day meeting the Committee identified key points where capacity development would strengthen implementation of the Convention towards the goals to: - Enhance global food security; - Protect the environment, forest and biodiversity from plant pests; and - Facilitate economic and trade development An operational work plan with innovative ideas for implementing a globally agreed strategy on capacity development was developed, and the CDC served as a steering committee to guide specific projects. Please find more information on the work of CDC here.
