Call for nominations to attend the IPPC Workshops on phytosanitary measures for developing contracting parties among the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is implementing a Global Project entitled “Strengthening the Capacity of Developing Contracting Parties to Implement the IPPC and its Standards under FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme” (GCP/INT/291/CPR). Within this project, two IPPC Virtual Technical Workshops on Phytosanitary Measures will be organized among the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries in 2021.

This call is soliciting nominations from the BRI countries representatives to participate in these workshops.

The first virtual technical workshops is scheduled from 25 to 29 October 2021 and will last five days with approximately 30-60 participants from English speaking BRI countries. It will be held in English. The second virtual technical Workshops is scheduled from 8 to 12 November 2021. It will have the same format and content and will last five days with approximately 30-60 participants from French speaking BRI countries and it will be held in French. Both of these virtual technical workshops will be co-organized by the IPPC Secretariat and the Center of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.

The objectives of these workshops are:

a) to develop a better understanding of the advances in agriculture, taking the example of the achievements and successes of the Chinese agriculture, plant protection and phytosanitary systems;

b) to acknowledge the advanced agricultural innovation and technology, with examples from enterprises in China;

c) to promote awareness raising of the BRI countries and seek future cooperation on phytosanitary measures.

Participants should meet the following requirements:

a) all relevant nominations documents should be submitted by the National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPO);

b) nominees should have worked for a NPPO on phytosanitary issues for at least three years and gained relevant technical achievements;

c) nominees should have agronomic or relevant higher technical title and certification;

d) nominees should work and communicate in English or French independently.

Please note that each NPPO can nominate 1 or 2 persons and should fill in the nomination form provided in Appendix 2 and send it back to Mr. Qingpo Yang, Implementation Facilitation Unit Associate of IPPC Secretariat ([email protected]), with copy to Ms. Ewa Czerwien, Implementation Facilitation Unit Assistant ([email protected]), with the title “COUNTRY_Nomination to the IPPC Virtual Technical Workshops on Phytosanitary Measures for BRI countries” before 15 September 2021.

An invitation letter will be sent in due time to selected participants with all details regarding the workshop. The participants will receive a certificate for attending the whole five days’ technical workshops. These participants and NPPOs will be given priority for the IPPC Advanced Training Course on Phytosanitary Measures scheduled in China in 2022.
