Erwinia amylovora was not found on the territory of Latvia until July 2007. The first outbreak of Fire blight was confirmed on July 2007. After that SPPS performed more intensive surveys covering the whole territory of Latvia. Totally 2490 inspections were carried out in 2342 sites of orchards, private gardens; public greens and 782 samples with visual symptoms of infection were taken. 296 inspections were carried out in 103 nurseries and 303 samples were taken for the detection of latent stage of infection. Samples were tested in the National Phytosanitary Laboratory. PCR, IF test and physiological tests have been used for detection of Erwinia amylovora following EPPO diagnostic protocol PM7/20(1). Erwinia amylovora was detected in 138 samples on Malus, Pyrus, Sorbus and Crataegus plants. There are 26 outbreaks of Fire blight identified in 8 districts. Fire blight was found mostly in private gardens, in 12 commercial orchards and in 1 scientific research center.
