Resumen

From 7 September to 8 October 2019, 16 specimens of Oryctes rhinoceros have been individually found in Tontouta International Airport area. This pest is widespread in the Pacific and Asia and it probably have been attracted by light of plane during a night take off from country of origin or during cargo night loading. Since this interception, an emergency response has been set in place (communication, delimiting survey, intensification of trapping site…) in order to contain and eradicate the pest. The identification of the CRB biotype is to be confirmed.

Peligro
CRB is considered as an exotic pest to New Caledonia. Introduction of CRB in New Caledonia could have economic impacts on the coconut industry, and also have important social and cultural impacts. Given the wide range of hosts of CRB, endemic palm species could also be affected.
