Breve descripción

The Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA) is the National Plant Protection Organization for Tanzania. It was formally established upon the enactment of the Plant Health Act of 2020.

TPHPA is entrusted with the mandate to protect the country's plant genetic resources from pests and diseases emanating from trade, invasion or native. To enable it to execute its functions, the TPHPA has setup facilities and network of experts. This includes; 36 border posts equipped with minilabs for rapid detection of pests and diseases; Four main labs for provision of plant health pest and disease diagnostic services; a host of drones, motor vehicles, cars and electronic gadgets for pest surveillance; a plant health and biosafety intelligence unit for data collation, analysis, reporting, conducting PRAs, horizon scanning etc.; A digital platform for issuance of Phytosanitary certificates. The platform is currently linked to IPPC s ePhyto hub.

As international travel and movement of people has become easier, the job of keeping Tanzania free of unwanted pests has become more demanding. TPHPA continuously looks to improve its effectiveness by working closely with other stakeholders. The TPHPA currently works closely with a host of partners who have significantly contributed to enhancement of its capacity. This includes the European Union, FAO, WFP, USAID, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Trade Mark East Africa and many more.
