Resumen

The first Trinidad and Tobago detection of Candidatus liberibacter asiaticus, or citrus greening, in Trinidad. The presence of Huanglongbing (HLB) or Citrus Greening (Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus) was confirmed in plant tissue samples (leaves) collected from a citrus (lime) tree located in Curepe, County St. George West (North Trinidad). The samples were tested at the University of Florida, Plant Diagnostic Center (UF/IFAS), Gainesville, Florida, USA . The following actions were initiated: delimiting survey, public awareness programme. An integrated pest management approach for HLB is being promoted.

Peligro
HLB is particularly devastating because of its severe yield reduction in citrus trees, followed by tree decline, the absence of resistant citrus varieties, and the limited control measures to prevent disease progression and pathogen spread by the vector, Asian citrus psyllid (ACP, Diaphorina citri).
