The forthcoming 14th Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-14)

Dear IPPC contracting parties, RPPOs and IPPC partners,

We are glad to announce that the 14th Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-14) is coming closer. The CPM-14 will take place at FAO headquarters in Rome from 1 to 5 April 2019.

Besides the plenary events, a pre-CPM session on ePhyto will take place on Monday to demonstrate and present the latest developments of the IPPC ePhyto Solution project. Moreover, five side sessions and a special topic session on a variety of plant health topics will take place. They will cover:

  • commodities and pathway standards;

27 March 2019, Rome – The IPPC Finance Committee (FC) met prior to the start of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-14). The FC reviewed budgetary and finance related CPM-14 documents and the progress made in the financial management of the IPPC Secretariat since their last meeting.

The IPPC Secretariat presented the financial report for 2018; the resource mobilization report for 2018; and the work plan and budget for 2020. Warning about phishing email

Please be aware that some IPP user invited to CPM-14 has received fake phishing attempts by email that seems sent by IPPC.

In this fake email they are asking flight details, WhatsApp, Telegram and viber number.

22 March 2019, Brussels - The IPPC/FAO delegation met with representatives from the DG SANTE of the European Commission (EC) as a follow-up to their meeting held in November 2018. International Plant Protection Congress 2019: 2nd circular out

The XIX International Plant Protection Congress will be held in Hyderabad, India, from 10 to 14 November 2019. Organized by the International Association for Plant Protection Sciences (IAPPS), ICRISAT and the Crop Protection Societies in India, the 2019 Congress programme of events aims to address emerging key issues in crop and plant protection. International Year of Plant Health (IYPH 2020) will be one of the topic of the Congress.

The organizers announced that the registration is now open with Early Bird registration ending May 31, 2019.

Call for discussion papers for the Expert working group (EWG) on Audit in the phytosanitary context (2015-014)

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting discussion papers in preparation for the meeting of the Expert Working Group (EWG) on Audit in the phytosanitary context (2015-014) which will take place from 3 to 7 June 2019 in Canada: https://www.ippc.int/en/events/event/725/.

The EWG will develop a draft standard according to Specification 66 on Audit in the phytosanitary context (https://www.ippc.int/en/publications/85297/).

The latest version of the Annotated Glossary is now published!

The explanatory document for ISPM 5 (Glossary of phytosanitary terms), the “Annotated Glossary”, provides detailed notes on terms and definitions in the Glossary.

It is reviewed by the Technical Panel of the Glossary and published every three years.

This latest version takes account of decisions until SC November 2018 and supersedes the last published version of 2016.

18 March 2019, Rome - At the invitation of the Secretary to the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), Mr. Jingyuan Xia, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, visited the IPPC Secretariat hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy. Both parties agreed on a Joint Work Plan for Cooperation (2019-2022) between the two Organizations, following on from the IPPC-WCO Cooperation Agreement signed on 19 June 2018.

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Annual Report 2018 is now available online! The annual report aims to highlight the IPPC’s major achievements in 2018 in an easy to read new format.
The report also explains why these achievements are important for the global plant health community. Improving the Monitoring and Evaluation System for the IPPC Secretariat and IPPC Community

19 February 2019, Rome - The IPPC Secretariat’s Task Force on Monitoring and Evaluation (TFME) organized a two-day workshop to develop a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework. The new M&E framework will help improve the IPPC Secretariat’s ability to monitor the implementation of the IPPC Strategic Framework 2020-2030 once adopted. It will also provide guidance to contacting parties seeking to establish their own national M&E frameworks.

Call for Expert Working Group (EWG) for Focused revision of ISPM 12 (Phytosanitary certificates) in relation to re-export

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for appropriately qualified experts to take part in the Expert Working Group (EWG) for Focused revision of ISPM 12 (Phytosanitary certificates) in relation to re-export (2015-011), which is tentatively scheduled for 9-13 December 2019 in Rome, Italy.

Nominations are due 15 May 2019.

Expertise required (according to Specification 67):

  • Two or three experts with a combined knowledge of and experience in regulating and implementing phytosanitary certification related to re-export; and
