The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is calling for individuals wishing to be trained as facilitators to support the design and evaluation of pest risk management to improve negotiations over market access. Successful facilitators will be actively involved in implementing, and possibly enhancing, already existing pest risk management decision support tools, as part of the project “Rolling out Systems Approach Globally", which is funded by the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) and implemented by the IPPC Secretariat, in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London (ICL). Call for case studies for the IPPC Guide on Pest Free Areas

The Intentional Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat has recently launched a call for case studies - with relevant pictures - to be included in a Guide on Pest Free Areas and a related database. The Guide aims to provide general guidance to National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) wanting to establish and maintain:

  • pest free areas (PFA);

  • pest free places of production (PFPP);

  • pest free production sites (PFPS) and

  • areas of low pest prevalence (ALLP).

It will clarify the principal requirements for the establishment, maintenance, declaration and recognition of PFAs, PFPPs, PFPSs and ALLPs.

2018-09 CALL FOR EXPERTS

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting submissions for experts to take part in:

  • the Expert working group (EWG) to develop an international standard on Audits in the phytosanitary context (2015-014) (see Specification 66)
  • the Technical Panel on Phytosanitary Treatments (TPPT). (see Specification TP3)

Nominations are due 12 November 2018.

The EWG on Audits in the phytosanitary context will convene in 2019 and it is tentatively planned to be held from 03 June to 07 June 2019 in Toronto, Canada.

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is calling for Trade Cases on pest risk management to improve negotiations over market access. Selected Trade Cases will receive support in implementing pest risk management decision support tools for export commodities, as part of the project “Rolling out Systems Approach Globally", which is funded by the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) and implemented by the IPPC Secretariat, in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London (ICL). Trade Cases involving pest risk management for imports, and pathways, will also be considered.

Draft diagnostic protocols (DPs) under DP notification period

The Standard Committee (SC) approved the following draft diagnostic protocols (DPs) for the DP notification period:

  • Xylella fastidiosa (2004-024)
  • Austropuccinia psidii (2006-018)
  • Ips spp. (2006-020)
  • Bactrocera dorsalis complex (2006-026)
  • Conotrachelus nenuphar (2013-002)
  • Revision of DP2: Plum pox virus (2016-007)

Contracting parties have 45 days to review the approved DPs and submit an objection, if any, along with a technical justification and suggestions for improvement of the approved DP. If no objection is received, the DP is considered adopted by the SC on behalf of the CPM.

This notification period starts on 01 July 2018 and ends on 15 August 2018 ...

The IPPC Secretariat is soliciting reference materials and discussion papers in preparation for the meeting of the Focus Group on Commodity and Pathway Standards, which will take place 3-5 October in Rome, Italy.

As laid out in their Terms of Reference, the Focus Group is tasked with analyzing and discussing multiple aspects of the development of commodity and pathway specific standards, and to develop recommendations and guidance for the CPM.

• The Focus Group on Commodity and Pathway Standards

• The Technical Panel for the Glossary (TPG) – Expert for English language

Nominations are due 31 July 2018.

The Focus Group on Commodity and Pathway Standards will convene 3-5 October 2018 in Rome, Italy.

The next TPG meeting will convene 3-6 December 2018 in Rome, Italy.

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting discussion papers in preparation for the meeting of the Expert Working Group (EWG) on Guidance on pest risk management (2014-001) which will take place from 5 to 9 March 2018 in Malta.

Call for experts: Expert working group (EWG) on Guidance on pest risk management (2014-001)

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for appropriately qualified experts to take part in the Expert working group (EWG) to develop a draft International standard for phytosanitary measures (ISPM) on Guidance on pest risk management (2014-001).

Nominations are due 20 September 2017.

Six to eight experts with collective expertise in:

  • conducting pest risk analyses (PRAs)
  • evaluating and selecting pest risk management options
  • applying phytosanitary measures in the international trade of plants and plant products.

Experts with extensive experience and expertise across a number of these fields will be given priority.

Implementation and Capacity Development Committee (IC) - Call for alternate member nominations from the Asia and Europe regions

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations from national IPPC Official Contact Points and/or Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs) for appropriately qualified individuals to be alternate members of the new IPPC subsidiary body – the Implementation and Capacity Development Committee (IC), to replace the Capacity Development Committee (CDC). Alternate members are required to be nominated from each region to participate in meetings of the IC when the regional member is unable to attend.

The number of individuals nominated per contracting party and/or RPPO has no limitation, multiple nominations submitted will be considered.

2017 July - Sea Container Task Force - Call for Experts

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is soliciting nominations for appropriately qualified experts from contracting parties (CPs) to participate in a Sea Container Task Force to supervise implementation of the Complementary Action Plan for Assessing and Managing the Pest Threats Associated with Sea Containers.

Nominations from the national official IPPC contact point should be submitted to the CPM Bureau member from your region (with a copy to the IPPC Secretariat ippc@fao.org) by 31 July 2017.
