The 13th Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-13) of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) officially launched on 16 April 2018 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The CPM Financial Committee (FC) meeting was held on 11 April 2018 at FAO-HQ, Rome, Italy, just before the 13th Session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-13) to be taken place from 16-20 April. The Technical Panel on Diagnostic Protocols (TPDP) met in February 2018 in Paris, France. The main objective of the meeting was to revise draft diagnostic protocols (DPs) in various stages of development, discuss several horizontal issues related to DPs and review the TPDP work programme with strategic discussions on the future of the IPPC DPs. The TPDP reviewed their work programme and discussed in-depth eight draft DPs. The outcomes of the meeting and the TPDP work plan will be presented to the Standards Committee (SC) in May 2018.

As you know, the thirteenth session of the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM-13) will take place at FAO HQs in Rome from 16 to 20 April 2018.
In addition to plenary sessions, five side sessions are planned, as well as a special topic session. A reception is scheduled on Thursday evening, as well as three side meetings organized by the IPPC Secretariat for FAO Regional Officers, on IPPC Regional Workshops and for IPPC Africa representatives. The third and final PCE validation mission for Barbados was conducted March 12 – 16, 2018 This mission was carried out by Mr. Fitzroy White, PCE Facilitator trained through STDF 401 Project to validate the work conducted during the 1st and 2nd PCE missions. Tunisia launched the auto-diagnostic of its current phytosanitary system by using the Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) tool, developed by the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). The General Directorate for Protection and Quality Control of agricultural products of Tunisia (DGPCQPA) organized the first workshop on March 13 – 15, 2018 in Tunis.
This evaluation is part of the first component of the FAO project: "Strengthening quarantine pest management measures, including red palm weevil in Maghreb countries: TCP / SNE / 3601 / C1".
