Posted on Jue, 12 Mar 2026, 07:48

The IPPC Secretariat is pleased to announce the release of four new videos under the Africa Phytosanitary Programme (APP), as part of training material to enhance pest surveillance using digital tools and harmonised survey protocols. The four videos, developed with support from the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA APHIS), are available in English, but will soon be available with subtitles in Arabic and French. They are:

  1. APP Mobile data collection workflow: Demonstrates how to use ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey 123 in the APP mobile data collection workflow. It guides users through key steps, including adding survey sites, capturing field observations offline on a tablet and submitting all collected data to the APP GIS Hub once an internet connection is available. Available here
  2. APP GIS Hub tour and features: Provides an overview of the APP GIS Hub, a growing platform for storing, visualizing and accessing geospatial pest survey data from the field, as well as a space for training and technical support tools. Available here
  3. Overview of survey guidance for Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus: Guides on how to conduct surveys for Candidatus liberibacter asiaticus, one of the most insect-vectored pathogens of citrus. It demonstrates how to detect the pathogen and collect samples for diagnostic confirmation. Available here
  4. Overview of survey guidance for Bactrocera spp.: Provides guidance on how to conduct surveys for Bactrocera species (fruit flies), including the proper use of the Jackson trap. Bactrocera species detection in fruit and vegetable exports can lead to severe economic losses and market restrictions. Available here.
