26 July 2019, Yerevan - The International Plant Protection Convention Secretariat in collaboration with the Government of Armenia, held a workshop on 24 to 26 July, as part of an FAO project on the production of grape phylloxera-resistant certified planting material. The Phytosanitary Measures Research Group (PMRG) will meet from 24 to 27 September 2019 in Cairns, Australia. Registration for the meeting is open and, experts in phytosanitary treatments and other measures are welcome to become a member and attend the upcoming meeting.
The PMRG was created to be an independent group that could consider issues related to phytosanitary treatments. It is a forum where critical phytosanitary treatment issues can be addressed through discussion and collaborative research and where global phytosanitary treatments issues can be scientific analysed and reviewed. The Australian Department of Agriculture is calling for NPPOs to nominate representatives to attend an IPPC International Workshop on the Spread of Contaminant Pests. This workshop will bring together representatives from IPPC and relevant industry organisations involved in international trade and shipping.
The workshop was postponed to February or March 2020. Updated information will be made available in due course.
The workshop aims to discuss and highlight the increased spread of contaminant pests, and foster collaboration between industry and government stakeholders on cost effective commercial solutions.

7 June 2019, Windsor – The training course for potential facilitators for using the Beyond Compliance tools under the project MTF/INT/336/STF “Rolling out Systems Approach globally – sharing tools for enhanced application of Systems Approach and market negotiation on plant pest risk” was recently completed.

12 July 2019, Vienna - Phytosanitary treatments (PTs) are essential for controlling regulated pests in articles and goods, especially those that are regulated for trade on an international scale. The IPPC PTs are an alternative to methyl bromide and help protect biodiversity. They provide the minimum requirements necessary to control regulated pests; and offer guidance on specific plant health treatments issues.
