The IPPC Secretariat is hiring a programme officer (P2) to work with the standard setting unit. Main tasks relate to facilitating the development of standards and publishing of standards in the official FAO languages. Read more about the duties of the position and requirements for application at http://www.fao.org/fileadmin/user_upload/VA/pdf/IRC3750.pdf The IPPC Secretariat welcomes applications from candidates meeting the minimum requirements. The deadline for applications is 20 December 2016.

Capacity and Team Building of the IPPC Secretariat though Monitoring and Evaluation Training

A monitoring and evaluation (M&E) training workshop of the IPPC Secretariat took place from 28-30 November 2016 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The workshop was facilitated by Ms Cecile Kusters from the Centre for Development Innovation of Wageningen University in the Netherlands, with a full participation of the IPPC Secretariat’s staff. The Workshop provided an opportunity for all units (team) of the IPPC Secretariat to collaborate and exchange ideas for working more cohesively, with particular importance placed on streamlining the work of facilitating the development of international standards and supporting their implementation.

The IPPC Seminar on Plant Health and “One Belt & One Road” Initiative in China took place on 23 November 2016 at FAO headquarters, Rome, Italy. The Seminar was held in the context of the Formulation Workshop of the IPPC Project on Capacity Development under the Framework of FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Programme. The Seminar was chaired by Mr Jingyuan Xia, IPPC Secretary, and attended by over 70 participants.

National Plant Protection Organizations contributions to addressing Antimicrobial Resistance

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a global issue that society as a whole needs to address, noted Codex members and observers at the Physical Working Group on Codex Alimentarius Work on Antimicrobial Resistance, held in London 29 November to 2 December 2016. The IPPC Secretariat was represented by Mr Brent Larson.

To help address this issue, National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) may also need to join in. The formulation workshop on the IPPC project for strengthening the capacity of developing contracting parties to implement the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), under the Framework of the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) programme took place in FAO Headquarters in Rome from 21-23 November 2016. The workshop was cognized by the IPPC Secretariat and TCS1 Division. More than 30 participants attended the workshop, including representatives of BRICS counties (Brazil, India, China, and South Africa), project counties (Pakistan), four RPPOs (PPPO, IAPSC, APPPC and NEPPO), and the FAO regional office in Central Asia.
