Practical advice

Once the accreditation process is complete and your trip to Rome is arranged, you will need to consider the following:

Accomodation in Rome:

It is best to arrive in Rome the day before the start of the meeting and take appropriate precautions to avoid the effects of jet-lag.

It is important to remember that arrangements for accommodation during the CPM meeting must be made formally and well in advance since there are not many hotels close to FAO headquarters.

It is best to make arrangements for accommodation close to the FAO building. Some of the hotels  located close to the FAO building are listed in Appendix 1 on the last page of this document.

A map with locations and contact information for the hotels in question is available online.

It is important to remember that most hotels will require a credit card to confirm your reservation.

Transport to and from the Airport

Rome has two major airports: Leonardo da Vinci (FCO) also known as Fiumicino and  Ciampino (CIA). Fiumicino is the main airport, and is served by taxis, trains and other types of transport services to Rome.

The fixed taxi  rates  are between 45 and 55 euros from Fiumicino to the centre of  Rome, and between  30  and 40 from Ciampino to the centre of  Rome. The Leonardo express train from Fiumicino airport to the “Termini” train station costs  14 euros and departs the airport every half hour between 6:35 am and 11:35 pm. The local trains also make this route at a cost of 8 euros with an intermediate stop at Ostiense station, a 15-minute walk from FAO building. Tickets may be purchased from vending machines or at airport counters.
