¿What is the CPM?

The CPM is the governing body of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) which meets each year in March or April at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy to promote cooperation required to achieve the goals of the IPPC.


The members of the CPM are the contracting parties of the IPPC and are responsible for implementing the work plan of standards setting, information exchange, and capacity development.  CPM meetings are attended by representatives of the contracting parties and by observers, such as the Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPO), the World Trade Organization (WTO)  Sanitary and Phyotsanitary Measures Committee, the Standards and Trade Development Facility, and the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Specifically, the CPM:
•    Reviews the state of plant protection worldwide
•    Determines the necessary measures to control the spread of pests into new areas
•    Develops and adopts international standards
•    Establishes rules and procedures for resolving disputes
•    Adopts guidelines for the recognition of regional plant protection organizations; and
•    Cooperates with international organizations on matters covered by the IPPC
