Pacific Ant Project Training Manual: Surveillance for Invasive Forest Ants

The Pacific Ant Project (PAP) project has been funded by the United States Forest Service (USFS) and is being carried out by the Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Hawaii (DOFAW) and the Pacific Cooperative Studies unit of the university of Hawaii (PCSU). This training manual is the first in a series designed to provide useful information relating to prevention, surveillance, identification and management of invasive forest ants in the Republic of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Hawaii. Forestry and other agencies from each country are collaborators in this project. This training manual is designed to provide you with some basic information on:
- The Little Fire Ant (Wasmannia auropunctata)
- A step-by-step guide to conducting a survey to detect new species of invasive ants
- A series of how-to guides for operating a Garmin® GPS unit
- Some guidelines for the management and storage of data
