FAO Regional Plant Protection and Production Officers

In early 2019 the concept of an FAO Plant Health Team was formulated and a concept note (posted below) was developed to highlight the benefits of promoting cooperation among the FAO Regional and Sub-regional offices, AGP and the IPPC Secretariat. Ongoing efforts are being made to strengthen this collaboration.

2018-09 update on Projects:
  • Strengthening quarantine services for plant and animal health in three countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS): Dominica, Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis (TCP/SLC/3605, 2017-2019). Implemented via a Letter of Agreement with the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA), the new RPPO for the Caribbean.
  • Technical Assistance for Strengthening Sanitary & Phytosanitary Legislation in Barbados (TCP/BAR/3601 – C1) (in partnership with IICA, an EU-funded SPS Project and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), 2016-18). Phytosanitary Capacity Evaluation (PCE) conducted in Barbados (2017-2018) with the support of the IPPC Secretariat under project STDF 401 ( http://www.standardsfacility.org/PG-401 )
  • Protocols for the Conservation and Propagation of Sweet Potato Planting Material through tissue culture (TCP/BAR/3702, 2018-2019)
  • Cassava Industry – Market Assessment & Technology Validation and Dissemination in three beneficiary countries: Dominica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. (GCP/SLC/010/CDB, 2016-2019).
