Call for Nomination to the Second IPPC Virtual Technical Workshop on Phytosanitary Measures for Developing Contracting Parties under the Framework of FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat is implementing a Global Project entitled “Strengthening the Capacity of Developing Contracting Parties to Implement the IPPC and its Standards under the FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme” (GCP/INT/291/CPR). Within this project, two IPPC Virtual Technical Workshops on Phytosanitary Measures have been scheduled for developing Contracting Parties.

The first IPPC virtual technical workshop was successfully organized in October 2021 with the active participation of over 50 attendees from more than 20 Contracting Parties in all five FAO regions, including Africa, Asia and Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America, and Near East and North Africa.

The second IPPC virtual technical workshop is scheduled on 21-25 February 2022, with an expected 50-60 participants from developing Contracting Parties and will be held with interpretation in Chinese, English and French. This virtual technical workshop is co-organized by the IPPC Secretariat and the Center of International Cooperation Service (CICOS), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.

The objectives of the second IPPC virtual technical workshop are: a) to have a better understanding of the advances in agriculture, taking the example of the achievements and success of China agriculture, plant protection and phytosanitary systems; b) to acknowledge the advanced agricultural innovation and technology, with examples from enterprises in China; c) to promote awareness raising of the developing countries and seek future cooperation on phytosanitary measures. A provisional agenda for the technical workshop is shown in Appendix 1.

This Call is soliciting nominations from the representatives from developing countries to participate in the second IPPC virtual technical workshop. Participants should meet the following requirements: a) submit all relevant nominations documents through the National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs); b) have working experience on phytosanitary issues at an NPPO; c) be able to work and communicate in English or French independently; and d) have no participation in the first virtual workshop in October 2021.

Each NPPO can nominate 2-3 persons, and all nominees should fill in the form of Appendix 2. Please send the filled form back to Mr. Qingpo Yang, Implementation Associate of the IPPC Secretariat ([email protected]), with copy to Ms. Ewa Czerwien, Implementation Assistant ([email protected]g), with the title “COUNTRY_Nomination to the Second IPPC Virtual Technical Workshop on Phytosanitary Measures for Developing Countries” before the 15th of January 2022. An official invitation letter will be sent in due course to selected participants.
