(The Technical Panel for the Glossary during their 2022 December meeting in Santiago de Chile at Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) Headquarters)
The Technical Panel for the Glossary (TPG) was established in 2006 and took the succession of the former Glossary Working Group, which had been working on matters relating to ISPM 5: Glossary of phytosanitary terms since 1994.
The TPG works on matters related to ISPM 5 Glossary of Phytosanitary Terms, which is a reference standard listing harmonized terms and their definitions. ISPM 5 is available in all FAO languages and a multilingual version is available upon request. ISPM 5 has also been transformed into an Online version, developed and updated by FAO Translation (see the Adopted Standards page), which is available both on the IPP and on FAO.org.
The TPG reviews the Glossary based on needs identified by various groups or arising from the development or amendment of ISPMs, and proposes amendments. It also deals with other issues associated with the technical language of standards, as required by the CPM or Standards Committee. Among its other regular tasks, the Panel reviews proposals for new or revised terms/definitions, comments from member consultation on draft standards that relate to terms or consistency, and ISPMs for consistency of terms within and between ISPMs. The TPG also reviews and updates the Annotated Glossary (explanatory document for ISPM 5).
The TPG is composed of eight experts with knowledge of phytosanitary systems and together represent all FAO languages. The panel's steward is also a member of the Standards Committee. The membership of the TPG is available below under “Publications”.
