Short Description

Plant Protection Division (PPD) is the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of Botswana. It is the contact point for plant health. PPD is currently a Division under Department of Crop Production one of the Departments under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security. PPD implements an act (Plant Protection Act Cap 35.02) to prevent the introduction, spread and establishment of plant pests; to facilitate trade in plants; to enable Botswana to comply with its international obligations. Through PPD, Botswana is a signatory to the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) which is recognized by the World Trade Organization (WTO) as the international standard setting body for plant health. The core functions of PPD are well described by the description of the Act above.
