Summary

In August 2023, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed established populations of box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis) in association with Buxus spp. (boxwood) in residential areas in Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.

Box tree moth is a regulated pest for Canada that had previously only been reported from the province of Ontario.

Following International Plant Protection Convention principles and International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures 8 - Determination of pest status in an area, box tree moth is considered present but not widely distributed and under official control in Canada. In response to detections of box tree moth in the provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, the CFIA will expand the area of Canada regulated for the pest.

En août 2023, l’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) a confirmé des populations établies de la pyrale du buis (Cydalima perspectalis) en association avec du Buxus spp. (buis) en zone résidentiel au Québec, Nouveau-Brunswick et Nouvelle-Écosse.

La pyrale du buis est un organisme réglementé au Canada et a été signalé seulement dans la province de l’Ontario.

Conformément aux principes de la Convention internationale pour la protection des végétaux et à la norme internationale pour les mesures phytosanitaires 8 - Détermination de la situation d’un organisme nuisible dans une zone, la pyrale du buis est considérée comme présente mais non largement disséminée et faisant l’objet d’une lutte officielle au Canada. En réponse aux détections de la pyrale du buis dans les provinces du Québec, Nouveau-Brunswick et Nouvelle-Écosse, l'ACIA va étendre la zone réglementée au Canada pour cet organisme nuisible.
