Summary

PPV was detected for the first time in DK in 1986 and immediately eradicated. All Danish nurseries and garden centers are inspected twice annually and trees are sampled both randomly and on suspicion. Five new infection sites (4 nurseries and 1 garden center) were detected in the period 2008-2010. Some infections have been traced back to plants originating in other EU member states.

One infection is traced forward to an orchard in DK. PPV is under eradication in all involved companies.

The control strategy in nurseries includes destruction of infected plant lots or single plants depending on infection level. Host plants in immediate vicinity are destroyed and quarantine zones around infected plants are established. In orchards infected plants are destroyed and surveys are performed with testing of random samples.

Danger
Under eradication and subsequent official surveillance at the infected locations. Spread from infected sites not observed.
