Summary

・Suspected larvae were detected at a maize field in Minamikyushu city, Kagoshima Prefecture, and identified as Spodoptera frugiperda (Fall Armyworm: FAW) by the Plant Protection Station (National Plant Protection Organization of Japan) on 3 July 2019. This is the first detection of Spodoptera frugiperda in Japan. ・The Plant Protection Station and Kagoshima Prefectural Government are conducting survey for FAW around the detection field in order to identify the infested areas and have already started conducting initial control measures in the field where FAW is detected.
