Summary

Potato spindle tuber viroid(Pospiviroid fusituberis, PSTVd)was detected in tomato in Fukushima prefecture in 2008, in dahlia in Yamanashi prefecture the following year. Nationwide survey was conducted and revealed the occurrence in 15 prefectures. Thorough measures have been implemented to prevent the spread and to eradicate, and PSTVd has not been detected since 2021. As a result of consultation with experts, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) confirmed that PSTVd has been successfully eradicated in 2024.

Danger
PSTVd is considered as a significant and damaging pest of Tomato and Potato, and designated to a quarantine pest for Japan and subject to detection survey.
